The CAD with a One-Day Learning Curve

Draw Circles Around Those Other CADs
When you sit down to draw, you want that old feeling of drawing on a piece of paper. You want to move around quickly, draw perfect lines and detail things in a heartbeat. Or just sketch. You don't want to fight with a computer.

PowerCADD lets you design like that, and it doesn't get in your way. It's easy to use, as powerful as the most expensive systems, and with add-ons like WildTools you can draw circles around those other CADs. It's so easy, in fact, that it's actually fun.

Draw like no other CAD

And you want drawings that look like the ones you've always done by hand. You want your drawings to look perfect, with crisp lines, exquisite details, arrows just the way you want them, colors, textures and curves. It's your paper you're drawing on, and you want the freedom to draw floor plans, machinery, or charts. Sketch a bush. Doodle a cloud or a flower. Maybe even a squiggly sketch. You don't want it to look like it was done on a computer.

Welcome to the world of PowerCADD.

It's an Elegantly Simple World
To begin with, PowerCADD looks like a simple 'draw' program, and you can use any font you want in your drawing. You can include photographs or scanned images for tracing maps. Of course, the drawing can have many layers which is like drawing on multiple sheets of clear acetate. And PowerCADD now has reference files to allow multiple designers to work on a single project.

With PowerCADD you can add plug-in tools and commands called Plugins. These include the PowerDWG translator for direct translation to and from AutoCAD DWG format.

You have the unique ability to choose between two main tool palettes. PowerCADD's tool palette is simple, powerful and easy to use. It's the combination of WildTools and PowerCADD that sets you free to draw with blow-your-mind power. There's more to learn, but WildTools takes the basic concepts of PowerCADD and adds many enhancements and refinements. And with all these tools available, you'll be happy to know that now there's an easy way to find and select tools.

You can draw anything with PowerCADD, and to see for yourself, please visit the Drawing Room. There you'll meet people who use PowerCADD, and see what they've drawn with it. Listen carefully to what they say. In a world where most people loath and despise their CAD program, notice how many of these people use the word 'love' and what passion they have for the program.

To understand this passion, you must first come to understand the unique way that PowerCADD lets you work with your drawing and become completely connected with the drawing process. It's different from all other CAD programs in the way it works and in the way that you interact with your drawing. When you see this and understand how you work with the drawing, then and only then will you come to understand the passion and the love affair that PowerCADD users have for the program.

With other CAD programs, the process of drawing is linear. For each operation, there is a series of steps that you must take, and you must decide in advance  what you want to do. But life and drawing isn't like that. You want to be able to make up your mind what you want to do as you draw. PowerCADD lets you do it like that, aiding you each step of the way without getting in your way.

And this is the secret of PowerCADD and what makes it so special. You draw with one hand on the mouse, and the other on the lower left corner of the keyboard. You use the Shift key to constrain to snap angles or fixed offsets and dimensions. Snapping works like radar to find locations in the drawing, and you can use the Edit Window to enter dimensions from the keyboard for objects in the drawing or to interrupt the drawing process. The Command key is used to override snaps, and the Option key adds many additional capabilities to the tools.

It's all easy to learn, and when you put all of this together, it is the seamless, intuitive way that you work with the drawing that puts so much power in your hands, and it's why people love PowerCADD so much.

"Though 3-D modeling may be all the rage, 2-D drafting is the lingua franca of real-world design; it's how architects and engineers communicate with builders and manufacturers. And you'd be hard-pressed to find a better drafting package than PowerCADD. This highly competent drafting program has enhanced color management capabilities, adds support for popular file formats, and introduces some interface refinements. It also supports 64-bit, double-precision internal calculations for outstanding accuracy."

It's Your World
PowerCADD is your drawing board, your drafting paper, and your drawing tools. How you arrange your world and how it works is your decision, your business.

You control how command keys work for tools and commands, and you have complete flexibility to assign the command keys of your choice. It's easy to set up, and it allows you to work with blinding speed.

You can design your own arrowheads, set the pen weights and dash patterns that you use, and create your own hatch patterns. You have the extraordinary ability to set your own pen and fill patterns, so that you can have colored textures for brick, stone, water, concrete, marble and many other materials. And you can design your own custom tool palettes so that you can work with just the tools that you want.

You can create new colors which are added to the menu color palette, and then adjust the color later if you wish. These colors can have a number or text up to four characters long to identify the colors according to popular color-matching systems. And finally, you can create entire custom color palettes and save them in the color palette file so you can use them in other drawings.

Lay Down the Ink
When you create a drawing in PowerCADD, you use drawing tools to create the lines, rectangles, circles and curves that make up the drawing. These are objects, and they behave like 'things' that you can pick up and move around. You can select the objects, move them, duplicate and rotate them or put objects along a path. There are tools for trimming, chamfers, and fillets. You have tools for text, and you can also put text on a path, and there's a built-in spell checker as well.

As you work on your drawing, there are a number of ways to view the drawing so that you can move in and out easily, and these include the Overview window for a bird's-eye view of the drawing. And WildTools has a powerful zooming feature called Zoomer that allows you to move in and out easily, even while in the process of drawing.

You can use non-printing guidelines and reference points in the drawing, and it's easy to reset the drawing origin to any location you like. You have the ability to cover up portions of the drawing with white-filled objects, without having to cut and trim all of the objects in the drawing. And when you use dashed lines in your drawing, PowerCADD is smart about positioning the dashes so that you have solid lines at corners of polygons and ends of lines.

You can shift selected areas of the drawing around with Move Points, and if you make a mistake, then you have multiple undo available to bail you out. You can do area and perimeter calculations as you design, and you have advanced dimensioning tools, as well as the Dimension window to edit dimensions already placed in the drawing.

While PowerCADD is primarily a 2D program, it offers some remarkable capabilities for three-dimensional depictions that even high-end 3D programs can't match. And included with each new PowerCADD is a copy of DesignWorkshop Lite, a highly acclaimed solid modeling program, and you have the ability to save your PowerCADD drawing in DesignWorkshop format. It's the best of both worlds.

As you work, you may have a problem from time to time, and technical support is free with PowerCADD, and you'll find a friendly voice to answer your questions.

It's easy to create symbol libraries and then place the symbols in the drawing with the Symbol tool or the Symbol Palette. We also have a number of symbol libraries already available, and these include the Landscape Library, Machinery Designer's Library, Color Portfolio, Architectural Images Library, Residential Construction Library, and the Architectural Delight Library.

These symbol libraries are extra-cost add-ons to PowerCADD. The features described for them are only available if you purchase them in addition to PowerCADD.

There are many other drawing tools available, such as the Parallel Offset tool, Door and Window placement tools, an Eyedropper tool, a Paint Bucket tool for filling areas of the drawing, S-Breaks and Long breaks. Selection Discrimination using the Selection Filter Window allows you to select only the types of objects that you want--rectangles only, for example.

You can use the Defaults window to set the attributes of tools or selected objects. You have a choice of working on all layers or the current layer only, and you can even invade a group of objects and edit the objects in the group. And you can use the Status window to adjust the nudge distance, change the drawing scale, or to change to the layer of a selected object.

Once you've finished your drawing you can print it on a laser printer or a large-format ink-jet plotter. And of course, you can also send the drawing to anyone in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.

You can add to PowerCADD's capabilities with the highly acclaimed WildTools external.

And of course, no one should be without the PowerDWG translator for direct translations to and from AutoCAD DWG files.

WildTools, Professional Layer Manager, Advanced Engineering Tools and PowerDWG are extra-cost add-ons to PowerCADD. The features described for them are only available if you purchase these externals in addition to PowerCADD.

Productivity Is What Really Counts
We all want beautiful drawings, but at the end of the day what really counts is how quickly you can get up to speed and how quickly you can draw. And in both cases, this is where the PowerCADD/WildTools combination reigns supreme. It's elegant enough to do a simple sketch but powerful enough to do your largest project. And if you don't use it for a month, it's something you can pick up and use again easily.
