DWG Translation for Latest AutoCAD

Hi,
We at Design PArtnership Plus are having translation problems due to AutoCAD updates. 2019 version DWG is not recognized by PowerCADD, and even when we request 2010 version there seems to be some sort of new compression routine that will crash PC9 near the end of the translation attempt.

Anyone seen this problem? Is a solution forthcoming from Engineered Software?

Thanks,

Phil Loheed

Hi Phil,

Download the free Teigha File Converter from https://macdownload.informer.com/teighafileconverter/

You can pretty much convert any DWG to version 10 that PowerCADD supports. The batch file converter works well too: you just assign folders containing DWG files and it converts the lot very quickly. :)

Can anyone assist with knowing of the following download is safe? I went to the site and there's a lot of advertising, etc.... which makes me think twice about attempting to download. I need to convert DWG AutoCad files into readable PowerCadd files and need some method to do this. The AutoCad online reader is horrible. Thanks! Frank

bellarchitect,

I can't verify whether the link that was posted is safe, but here is a link that is safe: https://www.opendesign.com/guestfiles/o ... _converter

This link is directly to the manufacturer of the libraries which PowerCADD uses to read DWG, Open Design Alliance. Scroll down the page and see "ODA File Converter for Mac OS X". That's the download you want.

Draftsight offers a free version for Mac users, which is what I use to re-save DWG formats. But the last few years they've been pushing a software by subscription model and the free version has become more and more limited, currently available to only their 2019 Mac beta build/release.

Its here if you want to look at it, but since they're not an identified developer, Mojave also requires you to disable security settings.

Will any of these translators work with workflow between PC and FormZ?

I still struggle getting models out of FZ and into PC accurately and without a bunch of extra line segments.

Regarding Draftsight:

I am using the latest version of Mojave 10.14.5 and Draftsight 2019 for Mac on an iMac Pro. I have found it to be excruciatingly slow. 2018 never crawled at this pace. I have just downloaded Teigha File Converter, and it seems to work well. A tiny bit of a learning curve without instruction, but it does work significantly faster than the current version of Draftsight.

Hi,

We're having issues with translation as well. I tried the converter mentioned here, but it gives me an error message when I try to convert a DXF file.

Is there an overview of best practices for saving AutoCAD files (version, and process) for better translation to PowerCADD?

Our office is using PowerCADD 9.1.10, with High Sierra and AutoCAD 2019.

Thank you
