I've been using PowerDraw/PowerCADD for drafting architectural projects since 1988. Prior to that I had been doing carpentry and whatever else was needed on remodels and some new house projects. I began drawing more of what I was building and teaching myself hand drafting. I took courses in AutoCAD, but never used CAD extensively until I began working for an architecture firm in Hawaii. At first I was doing all hand drafting there, but I bought a MacSE and PowerDraw, and taught myself at home until I was able to use it in work projects.
Things have changed, and I can barely remember how it was peering into that little black-and-white screen with the 'powerful' 1MB RAM system. Most of my work in the last 10 years has been consulting for various architects, and designing residential projects for owners and contractors (as "Davis Design Drafting"). Right now I've narrowed my focus to being project manager for one firm, Victor Conforti Architect.
PowerDraw/PowerCADD has always seemed a smooth extension of hand drafting. When I started using the draftsman-like WildTools, I was even more satisfied (excited?) about continuing to develop along with PowerCADD. If I could compare the process to that of working with some other systems, I'd say PowerCADD stays out of the way while you draw. The feeling is more like picking up tools and objects to create, rather than answering to some machine's stupid prompts.
I wish to acknowledge people who have guided me in the learning process: John Parazette, Victor Conforti, Dan Nichols, and Charles Feyh (a masterful PowerCADD user himself). I am including, with credits, images of work I've done for some of these architects who have set their stamp on my work in more ways than one.
