DEW House Study The DEW house was designed by a local Vancouver architect and built in the 1980s. It is a courtyard type house that achieves a rich spatial character through a few simple, yet elegant, design moves. The drawings shown here are part of an academic study of the house. The process of the study was as follows: First, existing documentation and site visits were used to gain an understanding of program, design intent and the quality of materials and construction. Next, 3D modelling in FormZ enabled a greater appreciation for the spatial quality of the house and offered some insight into how design elements were used to solve spatial and construction issues. Finally, the process of analysis and discoveries about design were graphically documented using PowerCADD and its powerful axonometric WildTools 3D.
