James Dixon
Architect

With one day's notice I was informed by my client that I had three days to verify an existing building, develop preliminary plans and design development plans for a 40,000 sq ft Tenant Improvement with ongoing client input on modifications and hidden agendas, shoehorn in two buildings worth of furniture and special equipment, and present to a Design/Build Contractor on the last day for bidding. It was an intense three days (only one all nighter). I translated the ACAD files from the previous tenant's furniture consultant into PowerCADD (and got the line weights where I wanted them all) on the plane back to Minnesota, where I arrived four hours later and 60 degrees colder. I was able to quickly generate the plans and modifications in PowerCADD with WildTools, and with help of some bit of digital projection magic via my 500MHz G3 PowerBook, I presented them to the Design/Build contractor and the client ten minutes after the last modification was made. Talk about a charrette. It would have been quite impossible without PowerCADD and WildTools. The drawings were clear, concise, and useful. More importantly however was that I met the deadline and the construction will be complete 6 April 2001.
