PowerCADD 2000 was used to generate all the preliminary design development renderings and is currently being used for working drawings for this five-star hotel development in Whistler.

As part of the client presentation process, we prepare 11x17 booklets which are left with the client. These design briefs integrate various parts of larger scale PowerCADD renderings, digital photos, scans and the like. This is the cover page for the booklet containing two different sections of the PowerCADD rendered site plan and some photo illustrations. The data was combined using Painter Classic and text was added in Photoshop. To simplify printing, this rendering plus three other 11x17 modules were Placed back into a single 24 x 36 PowerCADD file. This allows four 11x17 tiles to be printed onto Art Paper in a single pass vs print separate 11x17 tiles. PowerCADD makes it easy to create these types composite mock up boards.

Here's an example of a composite 24 x 36 sheet containing the four 11x17 discussed in the previous image. This file is plotted in color to an HP1055 onto Art Paper. The subsequent trimming is actually 'hand tearing' the paper to create a soft edge for each 11x17. The heavy texture of the art paper combined with ragged edges makes for a very strong 'textural' experience and many people who see these results are consistently amazed the finished product is actually generated entirely on a computer. PowerCADD is a simple tool that lets us create this illusion in a efficient and artistic manner without cramping our design style .

The swimming pool area, shown here at 1:1 print size, is from the overall rendered site plan. Lakes were rendered in Photoshop and pasted back into the PowerCADD rendering. By including photos of the finished stone, we were able to communicate to the client what we wanted to achieve with respect to finished materials... The essence of the concept here is "Mountain Lake"... where the pool deck and surround stone cliffs will be rendered concrete to create the allusion of rock outcrops.

The overall rendered site plan is 36 x 90 inches. PowerCADD's Print Selection feature allows us to print this massive site plan in two pieces. Why print it in two tiles? Well, the finished art paper plots need to be dry mounted. The dry mounting press has a physical limit of 56 inches so doing two tiles makes is easy for the service bureau to physically handle this big drawing. A simple feature like Print Selection makes a big difference to the quality of the finished product.
