| The Burnaby Lake Sports Centre, consisting of two primary developments, responds to a variety of tournament level sporting events. The southern component includes 3, artificial turf fields for field hockey, soccer and football. The northern portion is natural grass, sand based turf fields, for soccer and baseball. As a major sporting destination, the overall project needed to effectively integrate the sporting events, field houses, significant on site parking and pedestrian linkages between the new , north & south developments, and existing amenities to the east. |

| Artificial turf was considered the most suitable surface for the tournament level soccer, field hockey and football fields due to the high demand on the fields of this destination sports centre. The overall development responds to the needs of both athletes and spectators while addressing possible ground settlement issues due to the soft material below the fields. Pedestrian linkages from the related sports facilities to the north and east provided numerous design opportunities for plazas, bleacher seating and related field house amenities. |
