The client needed to enclose the entire property while still having an easily recognized entrance from the street as well as a generous front porch.  The front door was also about 3 1/2’ above the sidewalk, so not only was this a design challenge but also a drafting challenge.  How can this be illustrated for the clients so that they can understand how this can all be resolved?  In comes PowerCADD.

This shows the new front porch with overhead trellis.  The house elevation was imported from AutoCAD.  The portion to the right with the heavier lines and planting actually juts out towards the viewer.  By using different line weights and colors (all in grayscale) a sense of depth is created.

And this shows how the entrance to the “compound” looks from the street.  There are also design details in order for the contractor to estimate the costs involved.  The fence and exterior planting was “overlaid” on top of the original front porch drawing.

A detail of the front entry drawing.  It really illustrates how working in “WYSIWYG” can help generate the exact desired effects by using varying line weights and color.
