Irish Pavilion EXPO 2000

We started using PowerDraw back in 1992 on the recommendation of a colleague who also taught us how to use it. We fould it a very easy programme to use at a time when computers were becoming commonplace in the workplace. Gradually we moved from manual drafting to all CAD. With PowerCADD and externals we are able to communicate with the rest of the design team and find it an extremely powerful graphic presentation model. We use the basic 2D drawing, export it as a DXF to Form Z, and model the building in 3D. We use Artlantis for rendering and finally Photoshop.

WildTools is a natural progression to the main programme following on from requests from users of other CAD software. Currently we have 63 staff in Dublin and 50 in Limerick with offices in Moscow and Warsaw. We now combine cross platform range of Macs and PCs running PowerCADD, Microstation and AutoCAD.

The Dublin, Ireland, architect firm of Murray O'Laoire handles many projects, but here we are focusing primarily on the Irish Pavilion of EXPO 2000 in Dublin and Hannover, Germany. The design competion was won in December 1998, construction was begun in September 1999, for the EXPO 2000 which was open from June 1, 2000 to October 31, 2000. The building will be dismantled from the site by February 2001.

The project was drawn and administered through Dublin with Bernard and Jim visiting the site on a monthly and then fortnightly basis until completion in May. All the drawings were translated into German in Dublin with Garriock & associates in Hannover on site during the latter stages of the project.
