Located in the city of Rungis near Paris, this was a central plazza of a new development and it mostly served as a parking lot. The mayor wanted to confine the cars in the middle of the area and have a part of the plazza that could serve several days a week as a market place (Marché), but also for selling used books or attic reselling (don't know how to call that?). It had also to provide for public lighting at night (pedestrians under the covered market (Halle) and small lights for the car owners on the parking side. Beams are in Bangkiraï , sort of exotic rich in silicium wood and Azobé, a very, very hard wood for the posts. Railings were needed for the market dealers (Hams, saucissons, cheeses, Faisans, hares and so on, could be hanged on them). Because of the mixed dealers (cheese next to fruits or fishes) the roof takes after a middle-age design for easy ventilation. |
