The island lies off the larger island of Westray, and the airstrip on "Papay" is the arrival destination of the world's shortest scheduled flight: Westray to Papa Westray, flight time: 2 minutes!

The primary school has 10 pupils, and an extension has been added to provide a dedicated school area including nursery provision, and a Community Centre.
