The Inn at Knapps Narrows Marina
There is no question but that we would spend a lot more time on working drawings, and have much less time for design, if we were using any of the other CAD programs that we've tried. Most of what you see here is combinations of CAD drafting, imported details, digitized site plans, scanned water colors or sketches, 3-D models made from PowerCADD polygons, and lots of Photoshop work. We are using PowerCADD and WildTools (on Apple computers) because it lets us do these things, using whatever tools we need, while staying out of the way of our design process.
Ray Strang
Ray Strang began a commercial interior design firm (mostly restaurants) in the early 1980's, added a design/build program in 1988, and went back to school to finish his architectural education in1994-1996 at the University of Oregon. Before going out west, the only computer in the office was a word processor with a floppy disk. But at University of Oregon, they used Macs and PowerCADD. By 1996, he had figured out that he could spend a lot more time thinking about design (and sailing), and a lot less time on production, if he used computers effectively.
Married in 1996, he and his wife Anne are raising their two children on Kent Island, Maryland, working like dogs, and always looking for clients at the best dive sites in the Carribean.
