Sort order in Stationery folder

Post by Matt_A » Tue Jan 21, 2020 4:50 am

Can anyone explain what controls the sort order of the files that show up in the dialog window that opens when you double-click the PowerCADD application? It shows the contents of the Stationery folder, but in no discernible order. This is an image of the contents of my Stationery folder sorted by Name, and the contents of the dialog box. I have tried clicking the column headers in the dialog box to sort them (the way the Finder works) to no avail. The header box highlights but does not propagate a sort.

Any clues? I would like the files grouped in a way that makes sense, I can rename them but I'm flying blind. It is not by name or date or size that I can tell.

Also, is there a way to delete the *Blank entry? I have no use for it.

That's interesting. In my Stationery window (within PC 9.1.10 Build SG10), the files are listed in alphabetical order.

This was discussed in the last few months. It is supposed to be possible to change the sort order by clicking on the headings but for many of us this does nothing. I can't remember when this problem first appeared but it is at least a year ago. Also, this happens on two different computers.

Cheers,
Ralph

Sierra, whatever number that is. (Edit: I'm on OS 10.12.6.)

I'm using Mojave (10.14.6) and I get the same problem. I reported this to ESW a wee while ago and it's on their 'to do' bug list.

Looks like the listing issue may have started with High Sierra (10.13...)

BTW Matt, did you miss A/UX in your list? That was the underlying system of System 7. I guess that was just for the Unix geeks anyway. And do you remember the first Apple II's that didn't have any OS other than a BASIC interpreter built into the ROM? Oh what fun and simple those early days were!
